Finding Paradise on Isla Culebra

For now, paradise is here on this tiny little island in the Caribbean. Today I spent the afternoon on one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen – Flamenco Beach.

Many times I’ve written about powder white sand beaches, but I really don’t think I’ve ever set foot on one….until now. The sand at this beach is so fine that the only thing I can think of to explain it is powered sugar. The water is varying shades of turquoise, light blues leading out to deep azure on the horizon. And the temperature here is perfect …honestly, it couldn’t be better.

Beyond the profound natural beauty, there is almost no one on this beach…a blessing to a single woman traveler who doesn’t want to feel like her camera and purse will get swiped while swimming the water. The random mix of locals, old beach combers and young couples that frequent the beach all wave hello as they pass by and you really feel like everyone is part of some chilled out beachcombing community.

What really got me was thinking “wow, and I could have been at work today.” Living your dreams is a powerful feeling and I’m still a little shocked that I am fortunate to live mine.

For now, my heaven is spending sun-soaked afternoons on Flamenco Beach. Life couldn’t be better.
