Funny how the saying goes “time flies when you’re having fun. " For me, it wasn’t until I started working again (redesigning a website for my cousin’s husband) and taking Spanish classes that time really started to fly. For the past three weeks now, I’ve had a pretty steady schedule and honestly, I feel like I’m chasing time again. While I have to admit that sitting on the beach everyday with nothing to do did get a little boring, it’s amazing to see how a busy schedule can affect the progression of time. Even Tico time can go fast when there’s work to do, but at least the beach is always just a few steps away when you need a break. The easy going lifestyle here in Jaco is tonic for the soul and I strongly recommend it for anyone looking to slow down the pace and just enjoy life’s simple pleasures. In a few days now, I’ll be back on the road, checking out new places and moving on with the ultimate plan to see the world. While I’m excited for all the new experiences to come, the general emotion is bittersweet. I’ll miss spending my afternoons with Harmony and Kalana, chilling in a hammock with Erly on the beach at sunset, riding my bike down main street, playing pool at Tabacon, and listening to Randall talk about his country with a passion that could inspire anyone. Even the little things that I took for granted like cold showers after a hot bike ride home, the sound of geckos chirping at night, the funky taste of Pilsen and shopping at Mas Por Menos will stay on with me as fond memories. In this life, every moment is fleeting and no matter how hard you try to hold on to it, it never lasts long enough. I guess what matters most is making it count. For now, I’m just trying to savor these last moments here in Jaco. March 14, 2006 |
